Email Redirection
What is it?
Email redirection allows you to forward on email that is addressed to your domain to another email address.
This allows you to have an email address at your domain without needing to change the way your PC reads mail.
Types of email redirection
We support three types of redirection:
postmaster (catchall) redirection to an address
All mail to anyone at your domain will be forwarded on to another email address. ie:
| james@yourdomain.com | -> | joe@anotherisp.com |
| henry@yourdomain.com | -> | joe@anotherisp.com |
| in-fact-anyone-at-all@yourdomain.com | -> | joe@anotherisp.com |
The mail arriving at joe@anotherisp.com will still have the same To address, so you
will be able to see who the message was originally intended for and filter it on your machine accordingly.
To set this up, you set the postmaster recipient at your domain to forward to joe@anotherisp.com.
After you've ordered a domain from us, you'll find we've already set up your email to forward mail using this system
to your current address. All domains registered with us have this level of email redirection provided
free of charge.
redirection of a single recipient to an address
With this option all mail to one person at your domain can be forwarded to another address.
ie:
| joseph@yourdomain.com | -> | joe@anotherisp.com |
Only mail to joseph@yourdomain.com would be forwarded to joe@anotherisp.com. Mail to anyone else
at your domain your go via the postmaster forwarding address as above.
This type of redirection is only available with a forwarding or hosting account. Standard forwarding offers 4 additional
redirection address on top of the postmaster redirection, Advanced forwarding and Low cost hosting offer unlimited additional forwarding
addresses.
domain forwarding
This is just a special form of postmaster redirection. Except that instead of forwarding to a single address,
the recipient part is kept the same for the destination address.
ie:
| james@yourdomain.com | -> | james@anotherisp.com |
| henry@yourdomain.com | -> | henry@anotherisp.com |
| in-fact-anyone-at-all@yourdomain.com | -> | in-fact-anyone-at-all@anotherisp.com |
As with postmaster redirection, the mail arriving at *@anotherisp.com will still have the same To address.
To set this up, you set the postmaster recipient at your domain to forward to @anotherisp.com. ie: You forward
to the domain part only. This works for all domains registered with us.
Which accounts give me email redirection?
All of them, but with different degrees of flexibility:
- Parked domains have access to postmaster (catchall) redirection only
- Standard forwarding has postmaster (catchall) redirection and also allows you to redirect up to four other individual
recipients to different email addresses. Standard forwarding has no mailbox or webmail facilities.
- Advanced forwarding and Low cost hosting have access to our complete email service, which include: postmaster (catchall) redirection,
forwarding of an unlimited number of other recipients to different email addresses, and the use of up to 10 POP3/IMAP mailboxes (more mailboxes can be purchased on request).
In addition, mail in mailboxes can be accessed using our webmail systems.
